Concrete Dreams was KlangHaus’ first exhibition design commission
in association with LYN atelier and Southbank Centre.
We were given access to the archives including storage spaces for vintage display furnitures to create the exhibition over a 3 month period.
The audience was guided through dressing rooms, bathrooms and other backstage areas where films of notable shows were projected and programmes, set-lists, details of performances and ticket sales and the original plans for the centre were displayed. The tour culminated in a finale film in the Purcell Room across auditorium width double screens and the interior walls . The film captures the venues’ incredibly eclectic artistic history with sophistication, style and humour. The finale features footage of Merce Cunningham’s dancers, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Lemn Sissay among many others. We combined this with live performances from a Kathak dancer over the seating area whilst the audience watched from onstage
